Breast Augmentation
Periareolar

Periareolar Breast Augmentation has been a popular breast augmentation procedure for many years due to the fact that the scars can be camouflaged by placing them at the junction of the pigmented areolar skin and the non-pigmented skin of the breast. Access for placement of breast implants either above or below the chest muscle is excellent.

The theoretical drawback to placement of breast implants through the periareolar approach is that some breast tissue is divided which may contaminate the breast implant with bacteria that normally reside there. In reality, this has been more of a theoretical problem than a real one.

For the most part, the resulting scars are excellent and recent techniques of making zigzag incisions have contributed to further improvement of the resulting surgical scars. Periareolar Breast Augmentation is a good alternative to Trans Umbilical Breast Augmentation (TUBA) in appropriate individuals.
