FACE AND NECK LIPOSUCTION

Liposuction of the Face and Neck is often performed to rid appropriate patients of excess fat that gives them a "full appearance" in these areas. In some patients, the fat masks the underlying desirable contour of the neck or hides the jawline or cheekbones. This condition is not always related to weight gain, and may represent an expression of a family tendency in certain individuals to store fat in their face or neck.

The procedure is performed either under local anesthesia sometimes supplemented with light IV or Intravenous sedation. Very small incisions are hidden in the creases just under the chin or in front of the ear lobes, through which small cannulas or hollow tubes are passed to suction away the unwanted fat.

Postoperatively, a compression facial dressing is worn for a few days. The results are usually seen immediately, however, subtle swelling will take approximately two months to totally resolve. The procedure produces very little discomfort, and most individuals resume normal activities the next day.

In some individuals who truly have significant excess skin, as well as, excess fat, the face and neck liposuction may be combined with a face and neck lift. However, in the appropriate individuals, the postoperative appearance of Face and Neck Liposuction resembles the results obtainable with a face and neck lift if the problem was primarily excess fat under the skin.
