Some individuals, usually due to heredity or aging, lack prominence of key facial features, which add to the beauty of the face. Cheeks and chins are the most frequently deficient facial features, with occasional deficiency noted in the angle of the jaws.
Facial implants are ideal for enhancing deficient features due to their ease of placement and excellent biocompatibility. These implants are made of materials such as solid silicone (no gel) or polyethylene, implant materials which have proven safety records.

The implants are usually placed through small skin incisions, or through incisions hidden in the mouth, depending on the most desirable access for the individual patient. They may be placed under local anesthesia or under light IV or intravenous sedation.
The usual recovery time to return to normal daily activities is one to two days, with return to social activities in one to two weeks. Strenuous physical exercise must be limited for two to three weeks. Usually a soft diet is prescribed for at least one week.
The usual risks of the procedures include, but are not limited to, mild pain, infection or rejection of the implant with need for later replacement, swelling, bruising, hematoma or bleeding around the implant, local numbness, subtle edema or swelling which will take about two months to completely disappear.
So if you think you have a facial feature which is not as prominent as you would like or has become deficient with age, ask your doctor about facial implants to enhance form. |
