A Forehead Lift or Coronal Lift is designed to rejuvenate the appearance of a forehead which has drooped with age, fat loss or is positioned lower than normal due to hereditary factors. It may be performed through an incision over the top of the head which is hidden in the hair, at the hairline or endoscopically through small incisions hidden behind the hairline. The appropriate method for the individual patient is best determined from a thorough consultation with a surgeon familiar with all these techniques. The forehead lift is frequently combined with direct brow lift, upper eyelid cosmetic surgery (blepharoplasty) to give the maximum rejuvenation to the upper facial region.
In the endoscopic forehead lift, a small lighted tube is attached to a small camera, which allows the surgeon to do the forehead lifting operation through very small incisions in appropriate individuals. The surgery usually consists of elevating the soft tissues of the forehead, as well as, weakening the muscles that cause wrinkles and furrows of the central forehead region. Postoperatively, most individuals can expect to have a more pleasant, elegant and open-eyed look.
The forehead lift is usually performed under IV or Intravenous sedation and local anesthesia, and causes a headache like sensation, which usually disappears in several days, being easily handled with mild pain medication. Recovery to return to work and social activities usually takes one to two weeks, but strenuous physical activities should be avoided for approximately three weeks.
